OUR METHODOLOGY

How every Provenance session is conducted

Each Provenance programme follows the same facilitation methodology, regardless of length. The facilitator arrives at the household's premises, introduces the session's scope in plain terms, and works through document categories in a structured sequence. The household brings its papers to the table; the facilitator notes what is there and what each item is.

No professional opinion is offered on any document. No paper is removed or copied. The output of the session — an inventory or the relevant section of a heritage catalogue — is produced collaboratively and remains entirely in the household's possession. The session closes with a summary of what was covered and a note of anything to address before the next session, if applicable.

Single-Session Records Inventory

A three-hour session in which a household builds a one-page inventory of where every important household paper lives, who in the family handles it, and which official channel can be consulted for further reading. The session is organisational throughout. It does not interpret any document and does not draft, prepare, or process legal papers.

  • One facilitated session of approximately three hours
  • One-page household records inventory as the primary output
  • Reference channel notes included alongside each document category
  • All outputs produced at and for the household; nothing retained by Provenance
